The Poetic or Elder Edda is a famous collection made about A.D. 1200 of old Icelandic poems on cosmogony, mythology and the tradition of Norse heroes. This translation from the Icelandic conveys the power, sharpness and precision of the original. Prefaced with a most helpful introduction by Professor Peter Salus and Paul B. Taylor. Black cloth boards, gilt title to spine. ISBN: 0571090664. Text block slightly browned. Pictorial dustwrapper is lightly faded at spine and slightly grubby.
Cloth spine, black title. Front cover shows 3 young girls standing in the street and looking at a copy of Tiny Tots! First story is 'The Three Imps'. Colour, two-tone and b/w illustrations. Front cover is a bit bowed. Some bumping and chipping to corners. Grubby marks to rear cover. Foxing and some margin marks. Tears to a few page margins.

Spine is faded with damp stains spreading to both boards. Bumping and wear to covers and corners. Some foxing throughout. Colour plates are still very good.
Card wraps. Circular pictorial onlay to front cover, showing a boy climbing over a stile. 4 colour plates. B/w illustrations. First story/rhyme is 'Compulsory Education'. Heavy creasing and foxing and wear to covers. Presentation plate is stuck to inside front cover. Grubby marks and foxing to pages.

Some foxing. 4 colour plates.

First poem is Flowers for Mummy by Jessie Pope. Spine and corners bumped. Corners very worn. Some surface paper damage to top of front cover. Mark to bottom of front board which also affects rear cover and bottom of last 6 pages. Rear board is grubby and marked.Couple of hinges pulled. Closed tear to side margin of one page. Prize presentation plate to verso of front endpaper. Some light fingering otherwise contents are generally clean.

Chromos still bright.
