Most of these notes have appeared at fortnightly intervals during 1938 and 1939 in the New Statesman and Nation. The author's ramblings of country life. Beige cloth boards, brown titles. B/w photos throughout. Boards browned and some foxing mainly to spine and top edges. Text block browned. A few grubby marks to endpapers. Else contents clean.

Cloth spine faded but title still bold. Browning to contents. Bookplate to front pastedown. Inscription in ink dated 1923 to free front endpaper. Plate facing page 56 is detached. Colouring, and pencil scribbles to some b/w illustrations. Hinges pulled, binding is worn but holding. Musty odour present.
