At the close of the eighteenth century, the isolated Cardiganshire estate of Hafod was an essential destination for the early tourist in Wales. An Attempt to Describe Hafod, published in 1796, provided the fullest account of the aesthetic experience of Hafod, as viewed from Johnes' extensive walks. Its author, George Cumberland, was a close friend of Johnes. This edition is produced to mark the 200th anniversary of its first publication, the original text and map are reproduced in facsimile. Also an introductory essay by Donald Moore. Cream cardwraps. B/w illustrations. viii and 50 numbered pages. ISBN: 0952794101. Cover corners lightly rubbed. Contents clean.

Written by Keith Thomas; Michael Foot.
Stock no. 1830544
Published by Stewart Williams.
1982.
Very good condition in a very good dustwrapper.
Ebbw Vale owes its existence to the iron, steel and coal industries. These photographs are a permanent reminder of a completely different way of life in Ebbw Vale, which was bound up with hard manual; work, dirt, smoke and grime. Foreword by Michael Foot. Light red cloth boards, gilt title to spine. 193 b/w photos. ISBN: 0900807377. Second Impression. SIGNED by the author (best wishes) to free front endpaper. Light browning to page edges else clean. Pictorial dustwrapper is lightly browned, lightly edge-worn, damp stained to top edge. Light tobacco odour present.
