Ebbw Vale owes its existence to the iron, steel and coal industries. There has been a rapid decline in the iron and steel industry in Ebbw Vale, but in 1920 the accent was on expansion and the population rose from less than 500 in 1780 to over 40,000 in 1920. These photographs are a permanent reminder of a completely different way of life in Ebbw Vale, which was bound up with hard manual; work, dirt, smoke and grime. Foreword by Michael Foot. Light red cloth boards, gilt title to spine. 193 b/w photos. ISBN: 0900807377. Second Impression. SIGNED by the author (best wishes) to free front endpaper. Light browning to page edges else clean.
