The Poetic or Elder Edda is a famous collection made about A.D. 1200 of old Icelandic poems on cosmogony, mythology and the tradition of Norse heroes. This translation from the Icelandic conveys the power, sharpness and precision of the original. Prefaced with a most helpful introduction by Professor Peter Salus and Paul B. Taylor. Black cloth boards, gilt title to spine. ISBN: 0571090664. Text block slightly browned. Pictorial dustwrapper is lightly faded at spine and slightly grubby.
Green cloth, gilt title and decoration to front cover. Lovely chromolithograph and b/w illustrations. Spine and corners bumped and slightly worn. Inscription in ink to front free-endpaper. Light page browning, foxing to front endpapers. Some hinges are cracked causing contents to be a little loose.

Contained in original slip case which has full colour onlay to one side; in excellent condition apart from a couple of small marks.

A little uneven fading to covers and edges. Small name in ink to front endpaper. Light corner crease to colour plate (p.16). A few marks to outer page edges. Wrapper is edge-creased with tears and chips; faded to spine; has been repaired; some loss.
