Tracing the public performance of music from the taverns of the seventeenth century down to the famous St. James's Hall in Piccadilly, which lasted into the twentieth century. Burgundy cloth boards, sliver title to spine. B/w plates. Tiny bumps to board corners. Text block browned. Light browning to margins of plates. Price-cut red dustwrapper is light rubbed at edges and has a 2" closed tear (no loss) to top spine edge.

All plates are present and fine. Foxing throughout book, but still very good! Contained in original (rare) wrapper with pictorial onlay to front panel. Edge-creasing to wrapper, with a few tears and chips, but minimal loss.
