Name and date in ink in belongs to box (partially faded). Foxing, otherwise clean. Dustwrapper is edge rubbed/worn with small tears at corners, slightly larger tear to top front corner by spine (2"). Rear panel is slightly grubby.

Very good condition.
First trade edition. Dark red-brown simulated leather cloth, stamped in gilt on both front and back covers with differing cupid designs. Gilt lettering and 4 gilt cupid designs on spine. White endpapers. 30 magnificent colour plates, mounted on vellum-like paper with black descriptive letterpress beneath and all framed with elaborate border design in black. Spine and corners slightly bumped and rubbed. Small nick to lower edge of rear cover. Heavy foxing to endpapers, prelims, last (blank) page and textblock. A few hinges are cracked but binding is still tight. A few tissue-guards are slightly torn or creased. A lovely copy which would make a wonderful gift.
