Blue boards, gilt title to spine. Colour & b/w illustrations. 10 x 7 ins. 24 full page colour illustrations and b/w textual illustrations throughout. A highly unusual rendering of 33 Old Testament stories by the author, who has fused the individual stories into an account of the development of the scattered Tribes of Israel, who were to build the Temple in Jerusalem; suffer a decline, culminating in the destruction of the City of Gold. Each story is re-told with vigor from a different contemporary perspective, as would have been the case in the earliest oral traditions before these stories were written down. A Carnegie Medal winner. ISBN: 0575028831. Minor foxing to top edge of text block and endpapers. Pictorial dustwrapper is lightly edge-worn.

A few marks to covers. Tiny nick to front edge of spine. Front joint cracked. Name to top edge of verso of frontis in each volume, some transfer of ink to page opposite. Brown mark to edge of Moses title page. Water stain to outside edge of both sets of endpapers. Some browning to contents but is mostly from colour illustration opposite.

Minimal bumping to spine and corners. Odd tiny spot to covers. Page edges are browned otherwise contents clean. Dustwrapper is edge worn with loss from top 2" of rear fold. Spine slightly faded.
