The Tailor of Gloucester, as originally written by Beatrix Potter, was three times as long as the small edition published by Frederick Warne and Company which her admirers know so well today, and she was reluctant to have its text cut or altered. However, even in the privately printed edition, which she published herself, she was obliged to sacrifice some eleven hundred words and in the Warne edition that followed, a thousand words were deleted. This is a printed trade edition of the original manuscript and pictures with all the cherished nursery rhymes included and all the whimsical details retained. Produced with the assistance of the Free Library of Philadelphia, owner of the original manuscript and pictures. Cream pictorial boards. Full page colour illustrations. 9.5 x 7.5" ISBN: 0723210985. Foxing to outer page edges. Wrapper is edge-creased with a few repaired tears; some foxing and browning.

These books are mostly 1973 printings, all except books 12 and 23. Name in pencil to inside some titles. Wrappers are in various states of browning, with edge-creasing; a few chips and nicks; mostly to corners and top and tail of spine. Original shelf has some wear and bumps and chips to edges, but still very good.
