Front joint starting to crack and hinge between frontis and title-page is cracked but binding is still tight. Grubby fingermarks to endpapers and some page margins. Spine and corners bumped and slightly worn. Covers slightly grubby. A good copy of a scarce book.

There is a message from the publisher on the colophon page stating "the first impression of this edition of Cranford was published in 1940, and most of it was destroyed by enemy action".
