Stephens had attempted to create an Irish equivalent of The Arabian Nights in his own poetic retelling of the stories which existed in the oral tradition. Rackham rose to the occasion and produced 37 memorable illustrations including 16 in full colour. Green cloth, gilt decoration to front cover and spine. 318 pages. Spine browned and thus gilt to spine is faded. Corners rubbed and a little worn, lower rear corner has tiny nibble to cloth at edge. Text block and endpapers browned. Gift inscription in ink to front endpaper. All plates present, pale foxing to plate edges, tissue guards browned. Plate facing page 214 has slight surface paper damage to margins where tissue-guard was stuck. Contents clean.
