Originally published in 1913, this is the 2 volume set first published in 1952. White and blue pictorial cloth. Numerous colour plates and b/w drawings to each volume. 7 x 5.5". Unpaginated (each 1cm thick). Spines slightly bumped. Some light browning to spine of volume two. Covers of the two volumes are superbly bright and clean. Endpapers are partly browned and there is some foxing to page margins and textblock. A nice set.

Decorated card wraps. 4 colour plates and a few b/w text illustrations. 47 pages. Spine and corners bumped and some slight creasing to cover edges. A couple of page margins have small tears, some finger marks to page margins else contents clean. Dustwrapper is grubby, pencil scribble to rear flap.

Peer Gynt is first and foremost a poetic fantasy, although based on a real person who lived Norway c1800. About his exploits, not much more is known than is found in Asbjornsen's book Norwegian Fairy Tales, in which Peer Gynt's chief exploits lie in the direction of fighting and conqueroring trolls. Admirably depicted by the "Goblin Master" in 12 colour plates plus b/w text illustrations. Brown cloth, gilt titles and vignette to front cover. Cream and brown pictorial endpapers. 255 pages. Spine and corners bumped. Small black spot to lower corner of front cover, slight rubbing to centre of rear cover. A few marks to page margins but contents generally clean.
