This book was gifted to and belonged to Godfrey Wedgwood - Great grandson of Josiah Wedgwood and partner in the firm from 1859-1891. Foxing and page browning.

Scuffing and wear to covers, some marks. Inscription in ink to front endpaper. Foxing and browning throughout, a few 'splash' marks to pages. Corner tips to a couple of pages appear to have been repaired.

Almost very good condition in a fair dustwrapper.
A quite enchanting story of a colony of gnomes who live in the vast Forest of Boland, quarrying in their mines for precious metals with the aid of the Boland Belle of the Forest Light Railway. One day a mischievous leprechaun leads a band of followers in an attempt to break up the railway... Humour and excitement is captured with ingenious detail in BB's superb b/w illustrations and colour frontis. Blue pictorial boards. 127 pages. Spine and corners bumped. Fading to top and tail of spine and some slight fading to lower cover edges. Endpapers lightly browned. Dustwrapper is edge chipped with some loss and more substantial loss to base of spine and lower edge of rear panel (1"). Dustwrapper is also slightly grubby.

Contained in original posting box which is in good condition.

Text later changed as this story of a little girl who was befriended by an old gentleman is now considered to be "politically incorrect". Ardizzone's second book. Page edge browning, with a few foxspots to outer page edges. Wrapper is edge-creased with some tears and chips to cover edges; small loss along top edge of rear panel.
