Red cloth spine with black titles and vignette. Pictorial front cover shows girl and three puppies. 8 colour plates plus b/w illustrations. A little bumping and wear to spine, corners and cover edges. Covers slightly grubby. Front joint cracked next to frontis and one hinge cracked. Some light browning and foxing to contents. All plates present. Neat colouring to some of the b/w illustrations.

Tall slim format, 12 x 4.75". Stiff card wraps, pictorial front cover shows begging dog, cut-out face, dog on page behind blinks eyes when book opened. Dog in dressing gown on rear cover. Red, black and white illustrations with text in rhyme. Spine worn at ends, some creasing to covers. Colour page behind front cover has 2" split to spine edge at bottom, ink inscription to verso. Staples rusty. Light browning and an odd mark to text pages.

New edition. Dark yellow cloth with black titles to spine and front cover and black and red vignette to front cover. 16 beautiful tipped-in colour plates, with captioned page guards before them. Small b/w illustrations to text. 254 pages. Minimal bumping to spine and corners. Spine faded with tiny dark mark towards base. Top edges of covers and text block browned. Light browning to endapers. Some foxing, mainly to prelims and page edges. All plates present and in fine condition. Contained in rare dustwrapper which is price-cut and edge worn with small chips at top of folds. Spine, folds and edges of rear panel browned. Remains of small circular labels to spine and bottom of front panel.

Joints badly cracked, holding by threads, a few hinges cracked too so binding feels weak. Colouring to some b/w illustrations. Last text page partially detached. A few marks to contents. All plates present but one is detached.
