HITLER AND APPEASEMENT: THE BRITISH ATTEMPT TO PREVENT THE SECOND WORLD WAR
Written by Peter Neville.
Stock no. 1829816
Published by Hambledon Continuum.
2007.
Slightly better than very good condition.
Hitler, Mussolini and Japan posed a terrible threat to Britian and its empire. Britain strove to sustain peace for as long as possible by the traditional tools of diplomacy and accomodation. Stigmatised as 'Appeasement', this has often been held to be a bankrupt policy, epitomised by Chamberlain's Munich Agreement in 1938, handing over the Sudetenland. This book shows, in contrast, that many of the government's policies were reasonable and well though out... no one in Britain wished to be in another war. Pictorial cardwraps. B/w photos. xiii and 240 pages including index. ISBN: 9781852855277. Reprint.Remains of a small label to rear cover. Minor mark to vertical edge of text block. Contents clean.

SKUA! THE ROYAL NAVY'S DIVE-BOMBER
Written by Peter C. Smith.
Stock no. 1329502
Published by Pen & Sword Aviation.

2006.
Fine condition in a nearly fine dustwrapper.
The Blackburn Skua was the first monoplane to be designed and built for the Royal Navy in the late 1930s. As a result of continuous debate, it became a compromise between the Navy's desire for a carrier-based dive-bomber and the Air Ministry's preference for a hybrid able to perform in a limited fighter role, which proved incompatible in practice. As a dive-bomber, the Royal Navy put the design to good use from the outset of WWII. This book relates how the final design was created, how the dive-bombing technique was developed and perfected by naval pilots and traces the wartime operational career of the type with many first-hand accounts. Black boards, gilt title to spine. B/w photos. 271 pages (including index). ISBN: 1844154556. A super copy, looks unread. Dustwrapper is just lightly creased to top of spine.

The Aichi D3A1/2 Val was designed to specification 11-Shi in 1936 as a replacement for the Aichi D21A2 biplane. Chief designer Tokuhishiro Gomei designed an aeroplane that was easy to produce and rugged. Powered by a Nakajima Hikari 1, a 730hp nine-cylinder radial, the prototype flew in January 1938. It featured a fixed undercarriage, whose drag penalty was offset by its simplicity and lighter weight, and in other respects it was clearly influenced by the Heinkel He 70. Production versions were powered by a Nakajima Kinsei 43 of l,000hp and were capable of carrying a 250kg bomb beneath the centre fuselage and a 60kg bomb under each wing. Large format. Black boards, gilt title to spine. B/w photos. ISBN: 1861262787. A super copy, looks unread.
