Slightly better than very good condition in a slightly better than very good dustwrapper.
New Naturalist series No. 72. Book Club edition - no price and no 'Collins' at base of spine of dustwrapper. Green cloth. 20 colour photos and over 100 b/w photos and diagrams. ISBN: 0002190206. There are a couple of old, light sellotape marks to corners of the front free-endpaper and there is evidence of erased heavy pencil. The spine of the dustwrapper is lightly faded (as is usual with the NN books).

4th edition. New Naturalist Monograph. Green cloth boards. Beautifully written and illustrated. 29 black and white photos, 12 maps & diagrams, and colour photo frontis. 158 pages. ISBN: 0002130289. Boards clean. Browning and foxing to text block. Minor tape marks to endpapers. Name stamped in ink to lower edge of half-title page. Small closed tear (no loss) to top edge of half-title page. Frontis and title page affected by damp foxing. Tiny pinhole to title page. Price-cut pictorial dustwrapper is clean with minor scuff to lower front panel, publisher's laminate has been removed leaving glue marks to verso not visible to front. Overall, a presentable copy.

A detailed record of a summer holiday spent at Tenby. Blue cloth boards, gilt title to spine. 24 b/w plates with colour. xviii and 400 pages including index. Rebound in blue cloth boards which are heavily affected by damp. New endpapers. Froint inner hinge is split but otherwise the binding is nice and snug. 1" tear to top gutter edge of frontispiece. Damp patch to top margins of plates. All plates are present. Some foxing and grubby marks to contents but generally a decent copy internally.

A new edition, thoroughly revised and much enlarged by John Edward Gray. With figures of each of the kinds of shell. Brown leather binding with five raised bands to spine and gilt title, metal clasp with metal protected corners. All edges gilt. B/w text illustrations plus 12 hand-coloured plates including frontis. ix and 324 pages including index plus a number of blank pages to rear (presumably for notes). Rebacked with original spine laid down and new joint leaves a 0.5cm gap between spine and leather front board (has been rebvound as if for a cloth bound book, not leather binding). Spine is worn with loss to lower section and torn across the title. Boards are scuffed and marked. Metal clasp works well. Front joint is broken but held with rebacking cloth. Contemporary inscriptions to front pastedown. Old tape mark to gutter of frontis and title page. A few marks to endpapers. Some very neat, tidy annotation in red ink (looks part of the original work!) to contents. Else contents in lovely condition for a book of this age.

Some evidence of insect damage. Hinges pulled but binding still tight.

The author seeks to paint a series of pictures, the reflections of scenes and aspects in nature, which in his mind awaken poetic interest, leaving them to do their proper work. Green cloth boards, gilt title to spine, gilt vignette of monkey and boys to front board. 12 b/w illustrations, drawn by Wolf and engraved by Whymper. xiv and 372 pages including index, 4 pages of publisher adverts to rear. First series, second impression. Boards are rubbed, grubby, and edge-worn. Joints cracked and starting to split. Front endpaper removed, to 1.5" of half-title page removed (not affecting the title). Hinges pulled but binding is still holding. A little foxing and a few grubby marks to contents. Plate opposite page 358 (plate XII - The Sea-Serpent) has some red marks and discolouration. A good working copy, sold with all faults.

Vertical board edges are worn, board exposed. Foxing and grubby marks to contents. Some hinges pulled but binding is tight. A good working copy.
