Publisher's advert to front fly for 'The Canadian Naturalist: A series of conversations ion the natural history of Lower Canada' by Philip Henry Gosse plus further publications overleaf. x and 447 pages including index. Not illustrated. Vertical edges of spine worn and frayed. Corners rubbed and worn. A few marks to boards. Joints starting to crack. Endpapers grubby and marked. Browning to page edges and fly leaf. Some evidence of insect damage. Hinges pulled but binding still tight.

Preface is present but detached from the binding (1 page). One or two minor marks to contents else clean.

1st Series, Second Edition. The author seeks to paint a series of pictures, the reflections of scenes and aspects in nature, which in his mind awaken poetic interest, leaving them to do their proper work. Green cloth boards, gilt title to spine, gilt vignette of monkey and boys to front board. 12 b/w illustrations, drawn by Wolf and engraved by Whymper. xiv and 372 pages including index, 4 pages of publisher adverts to rear. First series, second impression. Boards are rubbed, grubby, and edge-worn. Joints cracked and starting to split. Front endpaper removed, to 1.5" of half-title page removed (not affecting the title). Hinges pulled but binding is still holding. A little foxing and a few grubby marks to contents. Plate opposite page 358 (plate XII - The Sea-Serpent) has some red marks and discolouration. A good working copy, sold with all faults.

In this book, the author has endeavoured to describe, with some minuteness of detail, a few of the many objects of interest ore or less directly connected with the Sea, and especially to lead youthful readers to asociate with the phenomena of Nature, habitual thoughts of God. Blue leather spine with 4 raised bands and gilt title. Blue marbled paper boards. B/w plates & illustrations. xii and 360 pages. Ex-library (Guille-Alles Library, Guernsey) with large, yellow library label to front board and ink stamps to margins, remains of library plate to front pastedown. Edges are rubbed, corners worn. Vertical board edges are worn, board exposed. Foxing and grubby marks to contents. Some hinges pulled but binding is tight. A good working copy.

Not sure if there is foxing to the textblock or if the pages have been printed that way?! Pale page edge browning else contents clean. Price-cut wrapper is edge worn, slightly torn and creased.

The thoughts and feelings that have occupied the author's mind during a nine months' residence on the charming shores of North and South Devon. Green cloth boards, gilt title to spine. 28 colour & b/w plates. xvi and 451 pages including index. Spine faded to brown, edges of boards lightly faded, rear board damp stained to veritcal edge and a pen mark to lower edge. Corners rubbed and worn. Joints cracked and repaired. Name in ink to verso of front endpaper. Some hinges pulled but binding is tight. Some age related marks throughout including browning and foxing. All plates are present, some affected by foxing/browning.

College stamp to fly-leaf and verso of rear endpaper. A few foxspots and light browning, most plates affected by foxing.

One plate has a margin crease. A nice copy considering its age.
