Grey cloth, red titles. Enchanting b/w wood-engravings. 200 pages. (The true first edition, as this book was later published with colour plates). Spine and corners bumped. Fading to cover at top of spine and top front cover. Endpapers and textblock foxed. Dustwrapper is slightly edge worn and torn with slight loss to top of spine, rear panel is very slightly grubby.

Blue cloth, gilt title to spine. Grey and dark pink decorated endpapers. 255 numbered pages. B/w illustrations. Minimal rubbing to spine and corners. Some foxing to textblock and top edge of textblock a little dusty. Dustwrapper is foxed on verso, is slightly edge chipped with minimal loss and has a large tear to rear panel. There is a message from the publisher on the colophon page stating "the first impression of this edition of Cranford was published in 1940, and most of it was destroyed by enemy action".

Dustwrapper is chipped at edges with minimal loss and some loss to top of spine. Wrapper is slightly browned to spine and rear panel edges.
