Fred Kitchen's autobiography paints a vivid description of work on the land during the first half of the twentieth century in Northern England For a while he worked on the railroad and at collieries but decided that was not the life for him and after 13 years working in industry, he became a farm labourer again. Terracotta cloth boards with gilt title and vignette to spine. B/w woodcuts. 276 pages. A few minor scuffs to boards, light reading wear to spine. Foxing to endpapers and text block. A few scattered foxspots to contents else clean. Pictorial dustwrapper is lightly edge-creased with a couple of small closed tears (no loss), a little grubby, and browned to spine.

A practical introduction to the technique of the woodcut. The author is a wood engraver and is well qualified to eplain the technique of the craft and to illustrate the technique. Brown cloth boards, gilt title to spine. B/w wood engravings. xv and 79 pages including index. Boards clean. Text block foxed. Endpapers browned. Some foxing throughout. Green pictorial dustwrapper is browned, edge-rubbed with a few small closed tears and chips, small amount of loss to base of spine.

A story about the last gnomes in Britain, their exploration of the Folly Brook and their search for Cloudberry, their long-lost brother who went up the Folly and never returned... Grey cloth, red titles. Enchanting b/w wood-engravings. 200 pages. (The true first edition, as this book was later published with colour plates). Spine and corners bumped. Fading to cover at top of spine and top front cover. Endpapers and textblock foxed. Dustwrapper is slightly edge worn and torn with slight loss to top of spine, rear panel is very slightly grubby.

Minimal shelf bumping to spine and corners. Pale page browning to endpapers and light foxing to textblock. A few small, light marks to preliminary pages. Dustwrapper is price-cut, slightly faded to spine.

Spine & board corners rubbed & worn. Cloth joints starting to split from the outside. Inner joints still firm. Text block and page edges a little browned. All plates present. A few finger marks to margins. Some dampstaining to some plates.

Spine and corners bumped and worn. Covers scuffed and marked. Front joint is cracked, hinges pulled showing stitching beneath but binding still tight. This is a well loved edition and the pages are quite grubby in places.
