The Nonesuch SWIFT in the Compendious Series. Edited by John Hayward. Brown cloth boards, gilt title to spine. xviii and 868 pages including notes. Top edge red. ISBN: 0370005171. Spine lightly sunned. Top red edge is fading at gutter edge and is lightly foxed. Inscription in ink to front endpaper. Else contents clean. Pictorial dustwrapper is lightly browned to spine and rear panel.

Gulliver's Travels is an adventure story (in reality, a misadventure story) involving several voyages of Lemuel Gulliver, a ship's surgeon, who, because of a series of mishaps en route to recognized ports, ends up, instead, on several unknown islands living with people and animals of unusual sizes, behaviors, and philosophies, but who, after each adventure, is somehow able to return to his home in England where he recovers from these unusual experiences and then sets out again on a new voyage. Blue cloth, dark titles to spine and front cover. 12 colour plates plus b/w text illustrations. 291 pages plus booklist to rear. Spine and corners bumped and slightly rubbed. Spine slightly darkened. Foxing to contents.
