Containing about 2800 figures accurately coloured after nature. A New and Entirely revised edition with ancient and modern appellations, synonyms, localities, etc, etc. Three-quarter green leather binding with marbled paper boards. Raised bands to spine with gilt title and decorative tooling. 46 exquisite handcoloured plates. Top edge gilt. Ex-library with usual stamps. Leather spine & corners rubbed and worn with some removal of surface leather. Couple of patches of loss of leather to base of spine. Small patch of surface paper loss to front board and front pastedown. Front joint split, rear joint starting to crack but binding is tight. Some joints pulled. A few scattered foxspots to contents. All plates present, plate 35 has small closed tear (no loss) to top margin. Overall, a nice copy.

The author was a surgeon and member of the Company of Surgeons. Includes Annual Oration to the council and fellows of the Medical Society of London dated 1813; and A Letter on the Evil Effects of Abesenteeism; being an answer to Hastings Elwin Esq dated 1829. A Dissertation on the Universe in General is dated 1795. Green leather spine and corners, gilt title to spine. Marbled paper sides and red speckled text block. Not illustrated. Edges of boards rubbed, leather spine & corners rubbed. Top half of marbled front board faded. Free endpapers heavily browned. One or two foxspots and some pencil annotation else remarkably clean for it's age. 'A Letter...' has top diagonal corner torn away from title page (not affecting text) and page behind the loss is browned in the same area.

B/w illustrations. xii and 340 pages. Spine is lightly browned and has a few patches of loss to leather. Heavy dampstaining affecting boards, prelims to page 1, and lower edge of last few pages. Prize inscription to front fly leaf dated 1911.Front joint split between fly leaf and half-title page but binding still tight. Some light top corner creasing. Contents otherwise generally clean.
