He had known the extremes of political failure and success. At one time he was execrated as a man who was said to sympathise with the enemies of his country. Grey cloth boards, gilt title to spine. This biography does not only describe Nelson Mandela's experiences and suffering under the minority white Nationalist Party rule but goes back even further. The author goes into incredible detail about Mandela's tragic past,his imprisonment and acquittal during the infamous Treason Trial of 1956 which lasted five years. Black cloth boards, gilt title to spine. B/w photos. viii and 596 pages including index. ISBN: 0241136288. Light vertical reading crease to spine. Light damp mottling to top of boards. Text block a little grubby. Photos printed on glossy paper have become stuck together by damp (can be prised apart with some surface paper loss). Orange dustwrapper is faintly sunned to spine and is just a little scuffed.
