Three-quarter calf leather binding 4 raised bands to spine, burgundy title blocks with gilt title. Marbled boards, text block and endpapers. NOT illustrated. Boards and prelims detached from body of tomes. Volume I has contemporary name & date in ink to front fly-leaf. Volume II has some contemporary annotation. A scattering of grubby marks to contents. Foxing is present, mainly to margins. Text block binding is tight.

Two volumes. Full brown calf binding, red title labels to spine. Gilt titles to spine. B/w illustrations and maps, some fold-out. Spines rebacked retaining original title-strips. Covers are very edge-worn and scuffed. New endpapers. Two names in ink to top margins of title-pages of both volumes (one name crossed out in each volume). Heavy foxing to contents and a musty (antiquarian) smell to contents. All plates are present. Fold-out map of Monmouthshire to volume 1 has been neatly repaired on verso with clear tape. Plan of Monmouth in volume 2 (pg292) has been neatly/professionally repaired and plan of Chepstow in volume 2 (pg357) has a small hole to it (not affecting any text or the illustration).
