The day-to-day adventures of a family of orphaned children living with relations in a large country house. Interestingly, this and its predecessor, The Golden Age are largely autobiographical. This is the first illustrated edition in Parrish's distinctive, almost photographic style. Green cloth, pictorial front cover, gilt titles. 10 tissue-guarded photogravures plus b/w tail pieces. 8 x 6". 227 numbered pages, top edge gilt. A few minor marks to boards. Gilt titles nice and bright. Front joint is just starting to crack. Endpapers are lightly browned. Text block lightly browned. All plates present. Contents are mostly clean.
