The story is about the son of a poor washer woman. Pictorial boards. Colour illustrations. With one moveable piece and fold out picture. Fading to cover edges. Corners are bumped; chipping to base of spine. Some browning. Inscription in ink to front endpaper. Foxing to endpapers and outer page edges. Creasing to edge of fold-out page.

Oblong format. Red pictorial boards. Decorated endpapers. Large illustrations and bold type. Spine and corners bumped and slightly worn. Small dent to cover edges. Bottom of boards a little rubbed. "Fishponds Training College Bristol" stamp to title-page and rear pastedown. Some light foxing to contents, a couple of hinges slightly pulled. Wrapper is edge worn and slightly grubby.
