Cream pictorial cloth with gilt titles. Colour frontis and title-page. B/w illustrations. 424 pages plus publication list to rear, top edge gilt. Spine and corners bumped. Spine brumped and covers a bit grubby/marked. Inscription in ink to front free-endpaper. Joints cracked, repair to tear in rear pastedown. Foxing and musty smell to contents.

A few small scuff marks to covers. Couple of ink marks to front pastedown and front endpaper. Foxing to endpapers and outer page edges. One small illustration has had a little colouring to it.

Edward Verrall Lucas, CH (11/12 June 1868 – 26 June 1938) was an English humorist, essayist, playwright, biographer, publisher, poet, novelist, short story writer and editor.
Born to a Quaker family in Eltham, on the fringes of London, Lucas began work at the age of sixteen, apprenticed to a bookseller.
