THE STORY OF A FIERCE BAD RABBIT
Written by Beatrix Potter. Illustrated by Beatrix Potter.
Stock no. 1209018
Published by Frederick Warne & Co.. 1st 1906. Very good condition.

The Story of a Fierce Bad Rabbit was written specially for Louie, the daughter of Harold Warne, who succeeded his father Frederick as head of the Warne publishing company. Louie had told Aunt Beatrix that Peter was much too good a rabbit and that she wanted a story about a really naughty one! The first edition is printed in panoramic form, mounted on a strip of linen and folded concertina-style into a wallet with a tuck-in flap. Needless to say, these were very fragile and few survived. Later editions were printed in the usual small book format. The wallet is covered with green pictorial cloth with a colour onlay of the Bad Rabbit to the front. "New York & London" on rear cover denotes that this is the second printing, one month after the first. Folds slightly rubbed, first opening lightly foxed. Some very slight surface paper damage at margins of first few pages. Covers are slightly soiled. Tab closure and retaining flap intact. This copy would make a wonderful gift.
