Red boards. B/w photos, plans and illustrations. 7 colour plates and a Map in pocket on rear board. x and 153 pages. Second impression. Top & tail of spine and board corners lightly worn. Text block browned. Some foxing present, mainly to endpapers, prelims and text block. Map present in rear pocket. Plain dustwrapper is lightly edge-rubbed and chipped at top & tail of spine and corners. Strong cigarette odour present.

Oman covers the castles of the Thames Valley, the West Country, the West Midlands, the Welsh Marches and Wales itself, some eighty in all, both intact and ruined. He explains the origins of castles, their purpose, use and roles in history. Black cloth spine, gilt title. Burgundy boards with gilt title to front board. 2 colour plates, numerous b/w illustrations. Fold-out map of Great Western Railway showing Cathedrals, Castles, & Abbeys of England and Wales in pocket to rear pastedown. xii and 229 pages plus index. Corners of boards lightly rubbed and worn. A few minor marks to boards. Text block browned, endpapers and page edges browned. Else contents clean. Map present in rear pocket. Two dustwrappers are present - one plain, one decorative, both have chips to corners and top & tail of spine. Strong cigarette odour present.

William Cobbett (1763-1835) was an English pamphleteer, farmer and journalist. He believed that reforming Parliament and abolishing the rotten boroughs would help to end the poverty of farm labourers, and he attacked the borough-mongers, sinecurists and "tax-eaters" relentlessly. This is a selection from the writings of William Cobbett. Edited with an introduction by John Derry. Blue cloth spine, pink boards. B/w illustrations. 276 pages. Spine is heavily sunned/faded and has a small white mark toward the lower edge. Boards are clean. Minor marks to text block. Contents clean. Contained in publisher's slipcase which is a little scuffed. Musty odour present.

Boards faded, spine browned and gilt title has lost the gilt. Two inscriptions in ink to front endpaper. Text block browned with a few foxspots. Foxing to prelims and endpapers. Margin of page 525/526 has a small tear which has been repaired with clear tape, now yellowed with age. Contents otherwise clean.

Very good condition.
Rebound with speckled calf leather spine, green title band and gilt title. Brown cloth boards. Year below publisher on title page is '1880-1884'. 180 b/w plates (including plate 172A). A few b/w illustrations to text. A heavy set. Boards are a little scuffed, rear board of volume 2 is marked. Spines are very good, a few scuffs but overall clean. Text blocks are browned and little grubby. New endpapers given during rebind. Plate 52 in Volume I has a small closed tear at top gutter edge. Page 1 of Volume II has slight margin loss at top edge - does not affect text. All plates are pres3ent. Some plates have a few foxspots or age-related marks. A very nice set.
