There has been a rapid decline in the iron and steel industry in Ebbw Vale, but in 1920 the accent was on expansion and the population rose from less than 500 in 1780 to over 40,000 in 1920. These photographs are a permanent reminder of a completely different way of life in Ebbw Vale, which was bound up with hard manual; work, dirt, smoke and grime. Foreword by Michael Foot. The text of this edition is taken from the 1789 edition and includes the first part only, with minor emendations. The additional two letters 'Timothy the Tortoise to Miss Hecky Mulso' and 'On the Sense of Hearing in Fishes', were first published in the 1877 edition of 'The Natural History and Antiquities of Selborne', edited by Thomas Bell, 2 vols, published by John Van Voorst. Exquisite full page colour illustrations. A beautiful edition! One small spot to outer page edges. Slip case is a bit better than very good - a few light marks and scuffs.
