Retold from Alexander Teixeira de Mattos' Translation of Fabre's "Souvenirs Entomologiques" by Mrs. R.Stawell. Cream cloth boards, gilt titles and decorations. Embossed vignette of dragonfly to rear board. 12 colour plates. vii and 184 pages. Covers slightly grubby and a little scuffed. Text block browned. Contemporary gift inscription in ink to free front endpaper has bled through to imprint on half-title page. Foxing to endpapers. Half-title page and last page heavily browned. A few margin marks. All plates present. Plate opposite page 64 (Psyche) has a closed tear to the mount which has been expertly repaired.

Bumping and wear to spine and corners. Some faint white spotting to spine and some of gilt dulled. Name and date in ink to prelims. A couple of erased words to contents page. Browning to endpapers. Some foxing, mainly to text block and endpapers but does affect some of plates. All plates are present. Dustwrapper is edge worn with some loss, mainly from ends of spine areas. A few tape repairs to edge tears on verso. Slightly grubby with some browning and foxing.
