From the German of Carove. Lilac cloth covers with gilt decorations and titles. Illustrated endpapers. 8 pretty tipped-in colour illustrations. 165 pages. Binding is worn with chipping to top and tail of spine, badly faded and browned to spine. Light damp stain to top margins of endpapers. Name in ink to top margin of title-page (partially crossed). One plate has a light corner crease.

The Ashington Group began in the early 1930s as an evening class of Northumberland pitmen keen to learn about art. Within weeks they were producing their own work and within a few years their paintings amounted to a complete record of life in a mining community. Pictorial cardwraps.
