THE CELTIC CHURCH IN SOMERSET

by H.M. Porter

Published by Morgan Books. 1st. 1971

Very good condition in a very good dustwrapper. Also includes a chapter on North Devon. This book fills in a part of the great blank in the history of Somerset and North Devon in the two and a half centuries between the end of the Roman occupation and the arrival of the Saxons in the South-West. It does so by giving an account of the Welsh monks who crossed to the south shore of the Bristol Cahnnel and set up churches and monasteries, inspired by their own severely ascetic version of Christianity. Blue cloth boards, silver title to spine. 146 pages including index.

Boards clean. Endpapers and text block browned with some foxing. Previous owner's bookplate to verso of free front endpaper. Contents clean. Pictorial dustwrapper is lightly edge-worn and a little grubby.
