Author of many children's books, little did he think he would become the father of modern caravanning and first vice-president of the Caravan Club when formed in 1907. ISBN: 0907128157. This is copy no. 404. Spine and corners bumped. Inludes a small erratum slip stating "first published in leisure hour in 1885 and 1886". Dustwrapper is price-cut and slightly faded to spine.

Two volumes. Full brown calf binding, red title labels to spine. Gilt titles to spine. B/w illustrations and maps, some fold-out. Spines rebacked retaining original title-strips. Covers are very edge-worn and scuffed. New endpapers. Two names in ink to top margins of title-pages of both volumes (one name crossed out in each volume). Heavy foxing to contents and a musty (antiquarian) smell to contents. All plates are present. Fold-out map of Monmouthshire to volume 1 has been neatly repaired on verso with clear tape. Plan of Monmouth in volume 2 (pg292) has been neatly/professionally repaired and plan of Chepstow in volume 2 (pg357) has a small hole to it (not affecting any text or the illustration).

Gift inscription in ink to front endpaper. Contents clean. Pictorial dustwrapper is heavily browned, edge-worn with a few chips, front panel is detached from spine edge and clumsily fixed with brown tape to verso, couple of water stains to spine, minor foxing to rear panel.
