- Mr. Ruggles was a dustman, Mrs. Ruggles was a washerwoman, and they lived with their large family in a cul-de-sac. The elder children had to look after the younger ones and help mother. Sometimes their help nearly ended in disaster, as when Mrs. Ruggles' "eldest" ruined one of her mother's customer's petticoats by unfortunate ironing. ANd the splendid day at the seaside was nearly spoiled when The Best Hat went floating out to sea.
