- Patty Hirst is lucky to be sent to such a delightful school as Morton Priory, but the rich uncle to whom she owes that privilege makes it possible on one condition - that she befriends and takes under her wing her cousin Muriel. Such a responsibility can be difficult and Muriel is not a girl to make it easy. She resents Patty's presence at Morton Priory, and makes things as unpleasant for her as she can. Patty continues to do her best in spite of slights and some injustices: she has a brave and sunny nature, and her cheerful perseverance has its reward.
