Ralph Kite was an ordinary Edwardian schoolboy, who was sent home at an early age from Tasmania to be educated in England. During his tragically short life he rose to command a company of the 52nd Light Infantry on the Somme. Having won the Military Cross he was mortally wounded and spent an agonising month dying of his wounds. In essence this is an informal history of the 52nd Light Infantry between the spring of 1915 and late 1916. Green cloth boards, gilt title to spine. B/w photos. xxiii and175 pages including index. William Harold Owen was the younger brother and biographer of the English poet and soldier, Wilfred Owen. Harold Owen's notable trilogy Journey from Obscurity closed with the death of his elder brother Wilfred in France in November 1918. This volume continues the story and is a self-portrait, having a high degree of truth and sensitivity that characterized the earlier works; as a picture, in vivid painter's prose, of aspects of English life in the twenties, it stays in the mind.
