Spine faded, boards slightly scuffed and slightly mottled. Text block and endpapers browned. Inscription ink to front endpaper. Foxing throughout.

This final instalment shows Garibaldi at last achieving his dream of a united Italy, by way of compromise with the powerful republican Count Cavour. Red cloth boards, gilt title to spine. B/w plates plus 4 maps. xix and 390 pages including index plus 2 page publisher advert to rear. Third impression. Spine faded and a little marked, shelf worn at head and tail. A few light marks to boards. Endpapers and text block browned. Neat inscription in ink to front endpaper. Foxing to margins.

Else contents are clean and tight.

Text block browned. Scattered foxspots present.

Green cloth with gilt title and vignette to spine and front cover. Numerous b/w illustrations. 366 pages. All edges gilt. Spine and corners bumped and worn. Some slight rubbing to the gilt vignettes. Tissue-guard to frontis has been removed. Name and date in ink to verso of front free-endpaper. Some erased pencil writing to front fly-leaf. Some foxing throughout, some page corner tips creased. Joints cracked, rear joint has exposed webbing, some hinges pulled but binding still tight. Grubby fingermarks to contents. Still a decent copy of a scarce book.

Map of The British Empire in 1937 and another in 1897 to front endpapers. B/w photos and illustrations. 245 pages plus 32 page publisher's advert to rear. All edges gilt. Rear board grubby and marked, spine rubbed and gilt faded. Endpapers browned. Contemporary inscription in ink to verso of front endpaper, a later inscription in ink (1924) to verso of frontis which has bled through the page to the frontis page. One or two minor foxspots to contents but generally clean and tight.

The only children's book by the author of Cold Comfort Farm. Gerda, a little girl who is taken prisoner by the Elves and kept in a cave with an old gnome, is rescued by the princess of the fairies. Beige cloth, red titles and illustration to front cover. 180 pages. Two-colour text illustrations throughout. Spine bumped, some very slight darkening to lower edge of front cover. Name in ink and small embossed booksellers stamp to front free-endpaper. Contents clean. Dustwrapper is browned, chipped and torn to front edge of spine with loss at top and tail of spine. There are splash marks to spine of wrapper. A nice copy of a very scarce children's book. This copy would make a wonderful gift.
