A few minor white marks to boards. A small area of surface paper loss to lower corner of front pastedown which is hidden by the front flap of the dustwrapper. A few minor marks and light foxing to prelims. This is copy 458 SIGNED by the author. Price-ut pictorial dustwrapper is edge-worn with loss at corners, grubby, small patch of surface paper loss to top of front panel.

Ebbw Vale owes its existence to the iron, steel and coal industries. There has been a rapid decline in the iron and steel industry in Ebbw Vale, but in 1920 the accent was on expansion and the population rose from less than 500 in 1780 to over 40,000 in 1920. These photographs are a permanent reminder of a completely different way of life in Ebbw Vale, which was bound up with hard manual; work, dirt, smoke and grime. Foreword by Michael Foot. Light red cloth boards, gilt title to spine. 193 b/w photos. ISBN: 0900807377. SIGNED & dated by the author (no dedication) to front endpaper. Spine slightly cocked. Board edges lightly rubbed. Text block browned. Pale dampstain to lower corner of pastedowns and rear endpaper. Else contents clean. Pictorial dustwrapper is dampstained at edges, faded to spine with a small closed tear repaired to verso at top of spine. Tobacco odour present.
