Three volumes. 'A descriptive handbook of all the known species of Rhopalocerous Lepidoptera inhabiting that region, with notices of allied species occurring in the neighbouring countries along the border.' Three-quarter black leather binding. 5 raised bands to spine, red title blocks with gilt title. Burgundy cloth boards. A few colour chromoliths plus monochrome plates. Ex-lib with minmal stamps. Volumes are misnumbered on spines: Volume III contains volume I; Volume II contains volume II (not misnumbered); Volume I contains volume III. Volume III (as marked) spine is split to lower half. Volume I (as marked) has substantial loss to top of spine (still present and placed inside book) but titles block is mostly intact if a little torn at edge. Leather bindings are worn with surface loss and boards exposed in places. Cloth boards are lightly marked. Text blocks and endpapers browned. Contemporary name and date in ink to front endpapers. A few grubby marks to contents but mostly clean. A nice working copy.
