This edition follows the text of the illustrated, abridged edition first published by Yale University Press in 1991, with minor emendations. Large format. Dark green cloth spine with gilt title. Green and gilt map of part of the UK on front cover. Colour & b/w illustrations. 524 pages. Second printing. A lovely copy contained in publisher's slipcase which is lightly rubbed at the edges of the pictorial onlay.
