Good condition. A fascinating history of the creation of the aquarium by an illustrious British naturalist and marine biologist. Burgundy leather binding with four raised bands and gilt title to spine, gilt London College vignette to front. 20 handcoloured plates. xvi and 327 pages including index. All edges gilt.

Spine faded and rubbed. Board edges rubbed and worn, boards scuffed. Bookplate from King's College, London and dated 1859 to front pastedown. A few faint school stamps to margins. Froint joint is split and holding together by last two cords. Some light browning to contents and a few age-related marks. All plates are present.
