  • Who can resist the call of hidden treasure? Not the Jillies! J.D. had to go abroad that summer, Mandy found a holiday job at Ambermere, a beautiful and historic old country house, and the others were co-opted soon afterwards as part of Mandy's plan to open the place to visitors. The owners, the Miss Ansteys, elderly and badly -off, were grateful to their energetic band of helpers, and one night they told the story of the Ambermere Treasure.
  • The Jillies worked hard and searched intelligently. Soon they were quite certain that someone was coming into the house at nights, someone who was no stranger; someone who knew about the treasure. Once Mandy and Guy had almost caught him in the attics, and they realized then that he had an accomplice inside Ambermere.
  • Of all things, it was a dictionary that put the Jillies on the track at last, giving them a clue which led to a midnight rendezvous with the enemy, and the end of their search.
