This is the final volume of British historian GM Trevelyan’s epic trilogy, covering the life and career. of Guiseppe Garibaldi The first two books covered Garibaldi’s rise as a national figure in the Italian states, and how he navigated the web of European powers who sought to retain control of their territories. This final instalment shows Garibaldi at last achieving his dream of a united Italy, by way of compromise with the powerful republican Count Cavour. Red cloth boards, gilt title to spine. B/w plates plus 4 maps. xix and 390 pages including index plus 2 page publisher advert to rear.

Third impression. Spine faded and a little marked, shelf worn at head and tail. A few light marks to boards. Endpapers and text block browned. Neat inscription in ink to front endpaper. Foxing to margins.
