  • Owing to the murder of the original messenger, Hawk Chudleigh, going to work in Queensland is the bearer of papers about a new secret weapon. 'Leakages' at headquarters put certain men on the trail and his life is attempted during the voyage. The steamer is blown up by a wandering mine and Hawk and his chum Walter Urquhurt, escape by almost a miracle. They reach an island owned by Philip Penrose, a New Zealander, and make friends with him and his family who rally round when the enemy raid the island. All but young Archie Penrose fall into their hands and it is thanks to Hawk's fortitude and Archie's enterprise that they are rescued. The Government step in after their rescue and the criminals meet their reward. Hawk hands over the papers and enjoys a convalescence in New Zealand.
