Almost very good condition. With an account of a visit to the Chaldean Christians of Kurdistan, and the Yezidis, or Devil-Worshippers; and an enquiry into the manners and arts of the ancient Assyrians. Three-quarter leather binding, gilt title to spines, 5 raised bands to each volume, marbled paper sides. Marbled text block and endpapers. Plates, woodcuts and plans (some folding). Folding map to rear.
Leather binding rubbed. Binding is still tight. Plate facing page 70 has a large tear to margin (not affecting illustration). Some foxing and age related marks throughout both volumes, also affecting illustrations. Name in ink upside down on rear fly of volume I, name in ink to front fly volume II.
