November 2023 Newsletter

Welcome to the November 2023 newsletter from Stella and Rose's Books. The aim of our newsletter is to keep you informed of new information, articles and books available on our website.

Autumn has well and truly arrived resulting in the annual spectacle of autumn colour in the Wye Valley. Our photo this month (thanks to Chris Bryant) captures a little of the magic with a view from Symonds Yat.

The festive season is approaching fast! If you live outside the UK and would like to order in time for Christmas, the last posting date given by our courier is Wednesday 13th December. However, as always, this is not a guarantee but the absolute last date for any hope of arriving in time. Our advice is shop early and choose a tracked method at the checkout!

Imagine our horror, earlier in the month, as we looked out of the window from our first floor office and espied a man climbing down the river bank towards the water and then laying face down in the mud! Fortunately, it turned out that this was a practice rescue (SARA?) and a couple more incidents occurred in the river during the next couple of days. Phew! Here is a photo of the end of one of the rescue missions.

SARA Rescue

In shop news, we have just purchased a large collection of Biggles, Worrals, Gimlet, and related W.E. Johns books. So if you're a W.E. Johns fanatic, keep an eye on the appropriate website category over the next few weeks as Maria steadily gets them all loaded onto our website.

And speaking of websites... Alison's article this month shows you some of the alternative ways of searching our website. These can allow you to narrow your search quickly to just the books that interest you. It's well worth a read - and will hopefully save you some time! Meanwhile, our featured book this month was written in 1996 - but contains a very up-to-date environmental message. Enjoy!

Alternate Ways To Search For Books On Our Website contributed by Alison

If you are interested in books on a particular subject, it can be hard to find the books that interest you through general searches on websites. On the Stella and Rose’s Books website we provide a number of features to help with this. In case you haven’t come across these features on our website search before, here is some information to get you started.

Categories is a powerful search feature we have on the website. Every book at Stella & Rose’s is assigned one or more categories... Read more...

The White Goblin contributed by Maria

Written and illustrated by Ul De Rico and published in 1996, this is the sequel to The Rainbow Goblins which was published in 1978.

It is a children’s book (probably for older children unlike its predecessor) and the story is about the White Goblin who was banished by his brothers, the Rainbow Goblins, and lives in a world of snow and ice. After learning of his brothers’ ignominious death, he wonders, “who am I to be thrust out of the beautiful, coloured world” and goes on a very selfish colour-drinking rampage. He greedily catches, licks and sucks every colour... Read more...
