The poem is a retelling of the story of Adam and Eve from the biblical book of Genesis which describes the creation of Heaven and Earth and of Adam and Eve. This poem fleshes out this story and imagines the couple's reactions to the events that led to them being expelled from the Garden of Eden (or Paradise). Light brown cloth boards, gilt titles and vignette to front, red border to front board. 12 b/w tissue-guarded plates, including frontis and title page. 242 pages. Top edge gilt. Boards lightly scuffed, faint mark to front board. Spine worn at top & tail and rubbed. Browning to contents and some foxing mainly to margins and verso of plates. A decent copy.

Fading to cover edges. A few small dents to cover edges. Prize plate to front pastedown. Front free-endpaper has been removed. Edge of frontis plate has been neatly cut off. Name in ink to top margin of title-page and to rear pastedown. Brown stain affects top margins of most pages. Contents are well browned. Front joint cracked. A good reading copy.
