Blue cloth with gilt title to spine; blue decorations to front cover. 7 b/w plates. 241 pages plus publisher advert to rear. A few minor marks to boards. Spine is leaning. Text block is browned/dusty. Hinge between page 198 and 199 is pulled but binding is tight. A few scattered foxspots present. Pictorial dustwrapper is edge-worn and torn with slight loss, spine is sunned/faded, a little browned and grubby.

Cream cloth with red titles and borders. 7 b/w illustrations including frontis. 241 pages. Reprint. Mark to top of spine (horizontally) and light fading to base of spine. Boards otherwise clean. Foxing mainly to text block, endpapers and some margins. Small name in ink to front endpaper. Top corner of page 195 and 197 is mis-cut as too large and therefore folded over (binding error). Pictorial dustwrapper has loss to base of spine (in line with the fading to spine), top of spine and corners lightly worn and chipped, overall is grubby with green marks to rear panel and foxing.

Possibly the rarest of Walter Crane's works. Spine and corners bumped and worn, some very slight loss of cloth to top of spine. Small dent to top edge of front cover. Cover edges slightly darkened. Heavy foxing to contents and some grubby fingermarks to page margins. A couple of small closed margin tears. A very decent copy of a scarce book.

Corner are bumped. Front joint is weak and cracked - can see webbing through; some hinges internally are pulled. Rear joint also a bit cracked. Page edge browning.
