The decade 1599-1609 was at first dominated by the Corporation's lively efforts to extend its authority at the expense of the lord of the manor. This was followed by a period of consolidation leading eventually to the grant of a second charter in 1610 consolidating rights acquired piecemeal over the previous seven or eight years. This volume contains the Corporation's minutes and accounts but supplemented, from 1602, by the records of the borough sessions. They conducted an in-depth review of all judicial and administrative procedures in the county, correcting abuse of office by officials and ensuring that penalties were imposed on all those responsible for encroachments on royal rights. This volume contains an English translation of the sole surviving roll from the Warwickshire Eyre held between 5 June and 20 July 1262. ISBN: 9780852201077. Looks unread.
