Third edition. 'The World of the Sea'.' A. Fredol' is a pseudonym of 'A. Moquin-Tandon' - a French naturalist and a doctor, a professor of Zoology. Text in French. Green leather spine with gilt title. Marbled boards and endpapers. 22 colour plates, 14 b/w plates, numerous illustrations to the text. viii and 632 pages including index. A heavy tome. Leather spine is rubbed and worn with a couple of small nicks. Boards are browned and scuffed, edge-worn. Text block browned. Joints cracked but tight. All plates present. A few scattered foxspots. Overall a nice, tight copy.

Fourth Edition. Four volumes, complete. B/w plates. Calf leather binding with 5 raised bands and gilt title to spine. Title to spines is: 'Pennant's Works: British Zoology XI to XIV.' Marbled endpapers. Text block is red. A heavy set. Leather bindings are worn at top & tail of spine and rubbed at edges, worn at edge of spine and board corners, black stain to lower front board of volume III and a few other minor marks. Top edge of spine of volume I and III is broken but holding, volume II top of spine edge is missing. Bookplate to front pastedowns. All plates are present. Some foxing and age-related marks to contents. Binding is tight. Overall a decent copy of an antiquarian tome.

Burgundy leather binding with four raised bands and gilt title to spine, gilt London College vignette to front. 20 handcoloured plates. xvi and 327 pages including index. All edges gilt. Spine faded and rubbed. Board edges rubbed and worn, boards scuffed. Bookplate from King's College, London and dated 1859 to front pastedown. A few faint school stamps to margins. Froint joint is split and holding together by last two cords. Some light browning to contents and a few age-related marks. All plates are present.

Spine is browned, lightly shelf worn at top & tail, rubbed at sides. Joints pulled but binding is tight. Name and date in ink to title page. A few small foxspots and margin marks present. Generally a very nice copy.

Rebound with speckled calf leather spine, green title band and gilt title. Brown cloth boards. Year below publisher on title page is '1880-1884'. 180 b/w plates (including plate 172A). A few b/w illustrations to text. A heavy set. Boards are a little scuffed, rear board of volume 2 is marked. Spines are very good, a few scuffs but overall clean. Text blocks are browned and little grubby. New endpapers given during rebind. Plate 52 in Volume I has a small closed tear at top gutter edge. Page 1 of Volume II has slight margin loss at top edge - does not affect text. All plates are pres3ent. Some plates have a few foxspots or age-related marks. A very nice set.
